You probably don't have otool if you dont have xcode command line tools
installed. But really, you should not have to worry about the system python
version, as you can only be using the version shipped with Maya, if you
plan to launch the python code within Maya.
Though having a standard python2.6 will allow you to build a 64-bit
tkinter, which you can then add to your pythonpath.
