I'm pretty sure they would be looking for people that are available over
the next couple months.

There are a couple different departments that write code at Weta. One is
focused on Research and Development, working on larger projects that may
implement white papers, applications that deal with rendering, etc, and
extensively use C++. Another department focuses on Web services
specifically servicing the Production needs and serving official Production
tracked data.

Production Engineering is the general facility pipeline department, which
glues together all of the other departments and workflows. We primary have
products written in Python, but our team is pretty diverse. We also have
C/C++/Java/Go/JavaScript/Perl(legacy) code that we write and maintain. It
comes down to the write tool for the job, and the team is pretty open to
being introduced to new ideas. Not everyone knows everything, but if you
are looking to improve on a specific area, then it is usually not a problem
for you to get onto a given project that offers what you want.

We also have a pretty diverse stack of tools. PySide/PyQt, various Web
frameworks like bottle/flask/tornado/Spring(java), messaging frameworks
like amqp/0mq, databases like postgres/mysql/elastic/sqlite
Team members may choose to demo/share new tools or just use them
successfully to make a case.

I would say it is a good place if you like a challenge and want to learn
more. It is such a large facility that when you write code, you have to
consider that 1000+ people may be using it, and it may be used on the
render farm. It could be a service that will get pounded by 60k+ cpus or a
tool that will pound on some other service, or the filers.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
