I would like to point out that while Marcus suggestion is totally valid,
docker is not absolutely necessary to run tests on a headless maya session.
It might be convenient if that's the way you are used to manage your
environments, but he's describing a fairly opinionated setup going beyond
the original question.

By the way, why are you talking about compiling python? mayapy is just a
simple script setting environment variables in order to use the python
interpreter (+ libraries and packages) shipped with maya, you can do the
same! (actually virtualenv exploits the same "trick").
