Hi. Did you make sure to check the docs for the select command? There is an equivalent python version of the docs for every Mel command http://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/Maya-Tech-Docs/CommandsPython/select.html This shows usage examples at the bottom, which in this case would show you how to pass boolean options.
