Hi all, I went to Barcamp Belfast yesterday: here's some notes.
1. The openstreetmap.org project is a "free editable map of the whole world". Data is collected by ordinary folks with GPS units walking/ cycling/driving around, and then uploading the resulting tracks. In contrast to most commercial mapping concerns, the data is free to download and use, under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license. Dermot McNallys presentation was very interesting, and gave a good overview of the project, its status and its goals. 2. @blaine had some interesting ideas about social networking, seeing the current situation as too centered around commercial providers. He is working on the cuttlefish open source project. 3. There were three excellent presentation from the good folks at Contrast, on "Business Analytics", "Success" and "Great Customer Service". Well worth checking out on video when posted. 4. There were lots of other presentations, many of which I didn't see. Video will be available for all, AFAIK. 5. About 150 people attended: a lot of folks who listed themselves to speak didn't turn up.
