Hmm.  If you can't convince management to get new IT people, then you
might want to consider live CDs or even just installing a new OS from
scratch.  They're essentially unsupported anyway.

The live CD option would be slower for users, and it might not even be
your preferred OS, but I think it's just unacceptable to teach people
computers and risk the confusion caused by viruses popping up windows,
causing unexpected slow-downs, etc.  Or worse... having them thinking
that viruses are normal or expected on their machines.

At best, continuing as-is will make their training harder than it needs
to be, and perhaps encourage bad practices in future, which will harm IT
as a whole.  At worst, it could put them off computing for life.
