I try not to get too far off on a tangent, but little things like this are good learning exercises and you have shortened the time it will take me to get through it.

Allow me to shorten it further:

Look in Mac/OSX/Doc of the source distribution.

Thanks Robert - you mean SorceForge I assume but I can't seem to find what you mean. I was going to download the HTML version of the 2.4 docs from the Python site.

I was just starting to study what Kevin pointed me at and it looks like there is more than enough info to get the job done.

Now if anyone knew how to change the line ending char in IDLE from cr to lf (as a selectable option) you would save me having no option but to hack the code :~)
I can't believe it's not an option, but I can't discover it. Under the Options Keys tab there is a selection for IDLE Classic Mac, Unix and Windows, but that seems to be just for the shortcut keys, and of course the Help therein does not work.

I think Bob is right in that PythonIDE won't last me very long in my learning cycle, but IDLE seems just a WIP. A (part time) corporate client is studying using Python more and is getting frustrated. It could mean more work for me, but I don't want or need it. I'm close to the point of just getting Wing and getting on with the software projects I want to do.

All your thoughtful replies have been very much appreciated,
Lee C
