I am using the latest update to Mac OS X (I believe that is 10.4.8). This is on a PowerBook G4 1.5, so PPC, not Intel. As you state, it doesn't appear to be Tk, since everything starts from the command line. When I launch the 2.4 IDLE (version 1.1.3) by double-clicking, I get a console window which opens in addition to the IDLE window. When I select this, the menus change to show that I am using Tk. I don't see this additional window when launching the new IDLE from the command line. Does this shed any light on the problem?
