I was able to get sqlite3 from python2.5 to work as a backend for roundup. The problem is that I had installed pysqlite2 and roundup defaults to using pysqlite2 over sqlite3 if it is available. I thought I had disabled the use of pysqlite2 by editing the back_sqlite.py file but that didn't acually disable it completely. When I unistalled pysqlite2 then sqlite3 worked.
