Has anyone heard anything about when this release might happen?

well, there are preview builds for 2.9.0:

I'm not sure what the plans are for a 2.8.11

Also, when it does happen, if I just rebuild my app with py2app, is it likely to work, or will I just break things worse? I'm confused about the Snow Leopard/32-bit/64-bit issues. I'm using the python.org <http://python.org> version 2.6.4 of Python and (I think) the latest version of py2app.

I admit I haven't looked into it in detail yet, and I will, but maybe somebody can simplify the hunt. In an app I last built with py2app under Leopard, a standard dialog to choose a font (using wxPython's wx.GetFontFromUser() ) appears on the screen for a brief flash and then vanishes when I run the executable under Snow Leopard. I could begin by just rebuilding with py2app under Snow Leopard, but I'm nervous, given all the S.L. alarms I've seen here.

Its a bug in wxWidgets. It has been fixed already for the next 2.8 release (2.8.11).
