Hi Drew,

You can try the distutils based building system:

cd pythonOCC/src
python setup.py build install

You first have to hack the environment.py script: the build system has to know 
the location of your OpenCascade installation.

The scons build script is quite experimental. As you say, the ideal would be to 
have something completely automated that does not need any manual hack. Still 
on the 'TODO' list, but I'm not a Linux guru...
