Hi all, (well, I guess the mail is most notably for Jelle or Thomas)
I would like to know if they are some plans regarding the material data management in PythonOCC? I wrote a thread in FreeCAD forum ( http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/free-cad/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1616), and since then, I think the right place where to start is most probably PythonOCC. Knowing that there is a FEM module in PythonOCC, I guess that this topic might have spring one day or another. Such a module would essentially be an interface layer between a client (FEM module / FEM solver) and some files into which are stored material data. I would be interesting to start thinking about it and maybe how integrating such feature in PythonOCC (of course, if you feel it is the right place). It is a pious wish (I don't really know when I will have time to work on it, but I would like to start nonetheless). I recall a mail from Jelle speaking that maybe the FEM module should be a different project from PythonOCC. What is its current status? Finally I would be interested in some advices : into which format should be stored material data? I see 2 options: - I guess STEP offers already some possibilities regarding material data storing. Could a step expert confirm it? If so, maybe, I should try 1st to ask to SLC mailing list if the corresponding STEP schema is supported? - Another open format exist, MatML, but is not widely supported (anyway, I don't really know any widely accepted format for material data management). In my company, we created our own, and in Germany, there is the VDeH format. If that is possible, let's stick to what STEP can offer as I feel that STEP is at least alived, while MatML seems to be dead. What do you think of this? I thank you in advance. Have a good day. Bests, Pierre
