As mentioned on https://github.com/pytrainer/pytrainer/issues/24, I
was able to reproduce the issue regarding pytrainer complaining
because of some embarrasing misperformance ("local variable 'pace'
referenced before assignment"), but importing went fine which makes me
think that maybe there is something wrong with your local
installation: based on development version (1.9.2-dev), not able to
change loglevel, activities not displaying...

I will suggest upgrading your local installation (make a backup
first!). Although I have a couple of cool Debian t-shirts (from
FOSDEM) I don't use any Debian based distribution (I run Fedora 18)
and therefore I am not aware of any binaries available besides
http://packages.debian.org/sid/utils/pytrainer.
