BTW, libusb-0.1.x has not been updated for over 6 years. Is there any interest in maintaining compatibility with a 6-year old implementation? http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb/files/libusb-0.1%20%28LEGACY%29/0.1.12/ (March 2006)
Maybe the whole support for 0.x could be dropped, at least on Un*x-like hosts (Linux, OS X, FreeBSD)? Many native projects still use libusb 0.x API, but only throught the libusb-compat wrapper, i.e. the actual libusb library is a 1.x series.
