XZise added a comment. There is a comment in @jayvdb's patch <https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/209503/7/pywikibot/site.py,cm> which talks about how to support that. Unfortunately it's got a bit stale because of the introduction of requests afaik.
