OK so now it works. I haven't set up BotPassword. Before making this ticket, I copied and pasted the password from the Windows clipboard in different ways, and verified that pasting worked by using Special:ChangePassword. In the command prompt window, I tried using Shift+Insert to paste, and Ctrl+V, and also with the mouse via the window menu. I hadn't thought of typing it; it is quite long. Just now I typed it in and it works. No idea why. The password has only ASCII characters.
