The regression was introduced with rPWBC11d5f92 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/rPWBC11d5f92c6fbbfc960205e74911aa8f78ebc79106> in release **8.0.0** where splitlines() replaces readlines(). The later keeps the line feed \n for each tag of a line.
