Xqt added a project: Pywikibot-RfCs.
Xqt added a comment.

**EmailAuth is implemented** with Pywikibot 10.2, see T395703
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T395703>. I will submit it to the stable
release shortly.

  **What does this mean?**
There are several login methods implemented with Pywikibot, see login module
<https://doc.wikimedia.org/pywikibot/master/api_ref/login.html>.

**BotPassword** should be used for high frequent running automatic bots or
**OAuth** should be used.
Pywikibot can also be used with **2FA** login e.g. for admins, buerocats or
stewards who use Pywikibot (based) scripts for their needs. Semi-automatic bots
or user can still use Pywikibot (based) scripts but from time to time they
where asked for the **email token** to proceed the login process.

In most cases login is processed automatically via cookies stored in the
pywikibot-<username>.lwp files.

  A login script
<https://doc.wikimedia.org/pywikibot/master/utilities/scripts_ref.html#module-pywikibot.scripts.login>
can be used to login to sites except for OAuth.

  **Proposal**
I don't think that we should print a warning if BotPassword is not used
because OAuth and 2FA have the same security level. But we could give an
additional hint to use one of these methods if EmailAuth is used. But I think
the given note via mailing list could be enough.
