I don't know what happened yeterday but the login works now for me and the my test clients. Maybe there was a wrong password given (although I don't believe that) and my test clients as well as my sysop account were affected and a captcha token was needed to login. I found this captcha form beneath the password form during normal login via web interface several times before the 2FA token was asked for. Therefore im am pretty sure that a captcha token was expected during Pywikibot login but there was no hint for that given by any response during the login process e.g. with UI status. Strangely, the captcha was displayed even though email addresses are given for all accounts. Anyway the login works for me now. Thank you for your help for this matter. btw the error message is given when the status code of the response is 'FAIL', see https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/g/pywikibot/core/+/f0d5da00e540359b4f2f55c18ff56e84b0d89a7e/pywikibot/login.py#295 TASK DETAIL https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T396927 EMAIL PREFERENCES https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/
