I use VS Code on Linux, mainly because I have used the paid version of Visual Studio so much for work.
I have no complaints about the git integration, and it runs the pywikibot unit tests in a pretty way, displaying green ticks if you are lucky. The debugger works without drama, and there is also a ton of professional level documentation such as https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/tutorial-flask It is also quite helpful with autocomplete and refactoring. I can't give any recent comparisons with other IDEs because, despite once being a bit of an open source zealot, I've been thoroughly snared by MS.
