Main milestone that keeps us from releasing pywikibot 2 is i18n. The patch
<https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#q,I6e2c63db039854dd8d009d837b2e6b9d11ba217a,n,z>
that allows pywikibot to use json file is still under review and at first
we have to wait until another patch
<https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#q,I12518189126d8f929d30ab18bf8597a288d28891,n,z>
got merged and then we start working on this one.

If someone works and make this patch
<https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#q,I12518189126d8f929d30ab18bf8597a288d28891,n,z>
merged. I will finish up the other patch.
