I think it might be. I have version 8.51. On Debian I think you have to install the gs-afpl package to get this (the GPL version is usually about a year behind).
Just for the fun of it: could you send me your resulting t.pdf?
It is so small that I don't feel guilty about attaching it. This is the version using writeEPSFile then latex+dvips+ps2pdf and without flattening the eps file.
I notice that the flattened version is rather slow to display, so that is probably not a viable solution.
