Hello! If I may... I would like to give you my "user feedback" on the topic. Having a title is mostly unnecessary when preparing a graph for publication since all pertinent information may be added into a caption of the "figure". But in my experience when using a graph to visualize data. a title is very welcome (since I don't have Latex or whatever to help me getting a "figure" done). [...] Recently I had to perform parameter optimization for a series of files (i.e. problems) of difference size. (I used gnuplot since I needed contour plots and the original software I was modifying already used it.) Having a title was quite necessary, since I have lot's of files; 1. with the same axis names, 2. with a bunch of graph keys already being used to give information about the contours. so I needed to add text somewhere to know, which "problem" that graph (figure?) refers to. Having an easy way to add a title helps a lot. (EX http://loki.let.rug.nl/~borges/2500s_6p_epsilon.eps, not very elegant but it's gnuplot so....) Very often, I have to generate plots of computer runs differing in parameter settings that don't belong into the axis, and (contour or not) I always put those into a "title" somehow. Perhaps it's just that I grew used to "titles" when using other plotting packages/libraries. Still, I think a lot of other users expect to be able to insert a title in the graph by just using some key "title='2500s x 12p bla bla'" without thinking much whether that's a "graph" or a "figure" or going into positioning the text themselves. My 2 cents... I have to go... Cheers! Francisco ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Do you grep through log files for problems?
