and now /usr/texbin/kpsewhich? If both locations correspond to the
same TeX installation, then it is indeed a strange one. My impression is that you have
systematically broken your TeX and PyX installation.

texbin is an alias pointing to /usr/local/texlive/2007/bin/i386-darwin/
I respect your impression but actually my TeX install works pretty well (laTeX, ConTeXt from default setup in TeXShop) and it is not strange at all as I simply installed macTeX which is the one everybody uses on macosx out of the box
http://www.tug.org/mactex/

on a new mactel with 10.4.8.

latex and texexec commands (the ConTeXt command) from terminal both seem to point to texbin

polifilo:/ andreavalle$ which latex
/usr/texbin/latex
polifilo:/ andreavalle$ which texexec
/usr/texbin/texexec

And I'm pretty well sure I haven't hacked anything at all. (I'm not able to...)

I am giving up at this point.

Well, many thanks for the effort . I understand it is complicated to debug without having the computer under your fingers. I'm afraid I will have to switch again to metapost (I'm not happy of it).

I did this interview where I just mentioned that I read Foucault. Who doesn't in university, right? I was in this strip club giving this guy a lap dance and all he wanted to do was to discuss Foucault with me. Well, I can stand naked and do my little dance, or I can discuss Foucault, but not at the same time; too much information.
