I should add that this implicit closing does not happen if you just
stroke the path. Only operations which require an area, like filling or
clipping, need lead to the closing of the path.
Btw, the notation of subpaths, etc. is briefly explained in
the PyX reference manual

Use the << operator:
clip = clip1 << clip2 << clip3 << clip4
