PyX has a concept of different length types which is nice because it allows for independent scaling of different aspects of the plot. In short, the letters have the following meaning: t true length u lengths of graphical objects like positions etc. v sizes of visual elements, like arrows, graph symbols, axis ticks, etc. w line widths x length of TeX and LaTeX output m meter See also: http://pyx.sourceforge.net/manual/unit.html#class-length Your bounding box thus has a size of 3cm x 2cm.
