Hi Mickey,

Take a look at some example defect reports from our Bugzilla issue tracker:

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121637

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121583

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121412

To contribute effectively to QA you don't necessarily need experience
with QA. Testing is as much an attitude and a disciplined, methodical
mindset as it is about specific knowledge. But you do need to know
enough about the product you are testing to be able to review defect
reports like the above, and try to confirm them. So you need a good
general knowledge of the product, not necessarily a "power user" but
at least a good solid working knowledge.

So if you are not familiar with OpenOffice at all, I'd recommend
installing it and start using it in your daily work. You can find
tutorials and user guides linked on our documentation page:

http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation

One approach would be to specialize. For example, starting with only
spreadsheets (Calc) or only presentations (Impress).

Regards,

-Rob
