It does work on OS/X under X11, but I had a few crashes and I’m not sure what caused them. Also the code could be simplified with eb_get_contents(). The current implementation does not compute the size of the utf8 buffer correctly : it will be too short if conversion is to be performed from Latin-1 or other similar 8bit charsets. eb_get_contents() has the same limitation.
