The only possibility is that the "footer" is not in the end of the image. There must be some other sector begins with bytes '4b 44 4d 56' besides the first. Theoretically we can make QEMU accept this case by "scanning" the whole image to look for the footer, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Fam
