This bug is not fixed. There was an attempt to fix it, but it were
reverted. There was another attempt (by me) but it was incomplete (I'll
resend in shortly).

For some reason I can't change status of this bug back to something more
appropriate.

Title:
QEMU does not support files with colons in the filename

Status in QEMU:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
It is impossible to feed filenames with the character colon because
qemu interprets such names as a protocol. For example a filename
scsi:0, is interpreted as a protocol "scsi".

  Unfortunately filenames like
  /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:0b:00.0-sas-phy0:1-0x5000c5000c14b41d:0-lun0-part3
  have colon in their names.
