Yes, you should be able to do this.  It looks like 0.8.3 will
be released any (minute|hour|day) now (at least according
to the current CVS change log).  However, when you boot
your Solaris express, you'll need to do the following:

at the grub menu, type "e" to edit the command line.

at the -B install-media=cdrom (or whatever the exact line is)
add 

",atapi-cd-dma-enabled=0" 

to the parameter list after the "-B <arg>" and then type <return> 
and then b to boot.  you should get a valid install from there.
