Based on the traffic I've heard on from the GDAL side, this may not be fixed. Word(not 100% confirmed) is that Erdas no longer offers the ECW dll files for free from their website so their is no way to build in support. So ECW support may require that you purchase such drivers from Erdas. So you might want to consider moving your data out of that format to something with a more clear license like Mrsid.
