More precisely, the problem on the Mac is display only.  see bug 
http://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/2760 (forgot about that).

The DB opens, and you can add layers.  The coordinate info is there, and you 
can even select features (no hilites, IIRC).  It's just that nothing displays.  
Only on PPC Leopard (10.5).  Intel Leopard, and Snow (PPC not possible), are 
fine.

At one point I thought it might be something with Qt - I was building the 
Leopard version with Qt 4.6 Carbon (the older GUI API) and Snow version with Qt 
4.6 Cocoa (for 64bit build).  For some reason, Nokia decided to not include PPC 
in the Cocoa build, which leaves out a lot of still-supported G5 Macs.  I 
switched to compiling my own Qt Cocoa for Leopard with PPC, but forgot to test 
the Spatialite problem until today, but it's still there.

Spatialite on PPC works fine via the sqlite3 utility.
