I don't think that QtWebkit would be a good enough replacement for QtSVG. It is certainly much more capable for rendering than QtSVG, but QGIS also needs QtSVG for writing. I don't think that QtWebkit could handle that. Maybe someone from the QGIS project could be the new maintainer of the QtSVG code and improve it to our needs? It would definitely worth having a look at other SVG libraries, such as QtWebkit, librsvg, Inkscape or others, but it at the end it has to be a read/write solution, not just a read solution. I personally have a good understanding of SVG, but I am not a C++ programmer. I probably would be able to support an SVG effort financially if someone could work on it.
