Thanks Richard, makes more sense now. Just a shame it is not implemented
directly in QGIS, rather than being a plug-in.

No need to make a shapefile.

Start postgis manager, make a connection to your database en use button
'create table'. There you have the same dialog as you have with making a
new shapefile: give a name, type of geometry and add attributes.
