Ok. So it seems there is (almost) a consensus on the graph option, mostly because of familiarity. Perhaps later with elements of patchbay for complicated cases. In terms of implementation difficulty, I think neither is too complicated, as soon as we have the right underlying models. I have been experimenting with the QGraphicsView/Model/Scene thing that Martin mentions, while writing a prototype of the patchbay. I'll drop that now, and see what the graph implementation could look like.
