Could you try to run qgis.g.info in GRASS shell on your raster:
your_path_to_qgis_dir/lib/qgis/grass/modules/qgis.g.info
info=colors rast=your_raster
it should output color table, something like
1.000000e+00 5.500000e+00 0 255 0 255 255 0
5.500000e+00 1.000000e+01 255 255 0 255 0 0
/usr/lib/qgis/grass/modules/qgis.g.info info=colors rast=lidar_2008
4.654600e+01 1.522013e+02 0 0 255 0 255 255
1.522013e+02 2.578567e+02 0 255 255 255 255 0
2.578567e+02 3.635120e+02 255 255 0 255 0 0
Do you have the same problem on more computers?
Yes.
OK, got it: it comes from r.external, so apparently the colors are applied only to
"real" rasters, not r.external ones.
Should I file a bug?
Thanks a lot.
