Hi all I took some time to check if we can use the new feature "Embed layers and groups" in QGIS Server. It appears not at the moment, because the GetCapabilities XML returned by QGIS Server with a child project (one with embeded layers from the parent project) does not contain any <Layer> item.
I think the server should be able to copy the layer information from the parent project, and deals internaly with the different relative paths of each imported layer if needed. I can open a ticket if needed. Michael
