Hi,
Good - how can we proceed here?
Who would have time and knowledge to do the work in OSGeo4W?
Who would be able to fund?
Can the QGIS PSC discuss whether some of the existing QGIS money could
be used for that purpose (I would say - only if we can't organize other
sources of funding).
Unfortunately my own employer can't participate with funding this
effort, because we already paid too much for other improvements this
year and we already have projects for next year.

I have brought it up a few times on the osgeo4w list, we might even

a ticket for it.
Mostly a one time investment to get all the deps and extras built, or
figure out and document how to build them. Right now osgeo4w is
maintained by a very small team.
My approach is that we should create a parallel branch of osgeo4w for
the 64 bit versions, call it beta or whatever while we work on
getting
everything added and make it so people can install both 32 and 64 on
the
same computer without issue.
Thanks,

Hi
It is not difficult to compile a 64bit windows version, since most
of
the dependencies are available from gisinternals(
http://www.gisinternals.com/sdk/ ).
The difficulty is more in the detail:
- GRASS : I don't have experience with compilation for 64bit
- Formats like sid, ecw
- Interlis support (important here in Switzerland)
Therefore I think it would be best if osgeo4w could have a 64bit
version.

Hi Andreas,
thanks for the move. We would definitely be interested in a Win64
bit
version sometime next year.

Hi all,
Wouldn't it be good to offer 64bit Windows versions from QGIS
version
2.0 on? Most new and many existing Windows PCs are 64bit Windows
these
days.
I don't expect someone to work for free on it, but if an estimate
could
be done how many hours of work it would mean to put together a
64bit
OSGeo4W and standalone viewer, we could start collecting money to
make
it happen. There should be enough Windows users out there with a
strong
interest in the 64bit version.
Question: is this more a one-time investment or would it mean a
lot of
work further on, maintaining the two versions, 32bit and 64bit?
Other opinions?
