Dear all,

thank you for your prompt replies last week, and in the meantime I have worked out how ODK can be used for our purpose without relying on an internet connection. If anyone is interested in the set up instructions for laymen let me know.

Thanks again and greetings,
Janneke

Janneke,
for what you want to do, Qgis is total overkill. YOu need something easy to
use and much smaller. Have a look at the Open Data Kit
(http://opendatakit.org/) especially the collect application which run on
Android The ODK was made for exactly the purpose that you have in mind.
