Hi, I believe it has to do with layers that have automated labeling on polygon layers with free or horizontal label placement algorithm.
If I turn off these layers the crashes do not appear. I can then later turn on the visibility of these layers and it will work fine. I will try to create a test project with the same labeling settings and the data in an sqlite db for testing. When QGIS crashes, I always get the "QPixmap: it is not safe to use pixmaps outside the GUI thread" message.
