Thanks for the detailed steps, I've fixed this in my
geom_checker_fixes branch [1] (which I periodically push into master).
Will it be possible to update the plugin or is it mandatory to recompile
QGIS as a whole to test the bug fix?
In short, you'll need to recompile the entire QGIS. But if you then keep
the sources and build directory, subsequent builds will be incremental,
hence much quicker.
