As part of http://hub.qgis.org/issues/14082 I had a look into the Field Calculator today, and see there are 12 output field types nowadays?
http://i.imgur.com/2GtUQgj.png Is there a special reason to do this like this? I understand that eg for a postgis db it is useful, but from an average user standpoint I think it is a little too much (besides the already doubled options)? Or IF there is an apparent use case for this, should we not hide/mask the corner cases a little? And (see #14082) make decimal number (real) or text the default type... by the way) so user X can use the Field calculator without using his/her brain too much ;-) And while we are busy with it: also give a big error message when there is an overflow (like the area calculation in the issue)?
