At least in Win7 64 bit many plugins either ignore Qlonglong fields or regard them as text.
It is quite annoying to have to store attributes as Real to be able to work in Qgis - especially since you have to add decimals as real 10.0 automatically is being converted to Qlonglong. And if you create a field as short integer next time you open the shape file it is being regarded as Qlonglong.
