I think the (current) groupbox within groupbox approach suffers from the
same UX defficiencies. At least I get confused regularly.

Maybe

* toplevel tabs
* first sublevel groupbox
* second sublevel ...
  groupbox again?
  skip?
  button to open in separate window?
