On a related note, I'd encourage any QGIS dev to watch KDAB's "Effective Qt (2017 edition)" presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ68dX1-sVc Their advice from the first slide: "Don't use the Qt containers - unless you have to". And that's coming from KDAB, who are massive contributors to Qt and know the framework backwards!
