This initiative was announced by Nyall today, but there is already
existing work that his current proposal builds on. So Nyall already has
collected a lot of knowledge around the reverse engineering of the
undocumented ArcGIS .lyr and .mxd formats.
You can discuss details with Nyall and you are welcome to join the effort.
