I'm also interested to be able to see selected features even when hiden by
others. When working with polygons only represented by a contour line, you can
completly miss a selected polygon if all other contiguous features are drawn
after the selected one. A workaround I found for features within the same layer
is to change the rendering order by using the expression is_selected() in
ascending order (Layer Properties -> Symbology -> Layer Rendering -> Control
feature rendering order). Hovewer, this needs to be done each time a layer is
added and won't help if an other layer is on top and hide the feature you
selected.

Is it possible to control the rendering order of features independently from
their own layer so that all selected features from any layer could be repainted
last to appear on top of everything else?

Objet : Re: [QGIS-Developer] [Qgis-user] Issue with How Selected Features are
Displayed When Overlapping

If there is a large cluster of points obscuring the selected point, even that
method will not work.

Has there been any interest in changing this behavior in QGIS?

Hi,
Indeed... I usually select a thicker line for feature that are below. This way,
I can see the selection even if it’s hidden.

I have a user complaint with QGIS who explained that when point features
overlap and one is selected from the attribute table but is underneath other
features, you cannot see it highlighted because it is covered by other points.
Is there any way to have it show that there is a highlighted feature there even
though it is underneath non-highlighted features? In ArcMap the highlights are
always shown on the top level of the canvas even if they are covered by
non-highlighted features.

I tested this in QGIS and the user was correct.

Thanks,

Calvin
