persist in what kind of context? Maybe setting project variables (there is a tool for that) would be sufficient?

Just realized I can only do what I want to do in QGIS, ArcGIS won’t do it.  Trying to load 25 KML files, merge and export as a single shapefile.  I can do everything I need to do in QGIS but one question, when you create a model in modelbuilder is there a way to persist the filepaths and filenames after initially running the model so that I don’t have keep selecting the files, alternatively can I load the filepath+filenames from a config (text) file?
