Hi

I wonder if it would be feasible to make another control that fetches a list of repos from a central page (even parsing out the wiki page could work) and then once you have selected a repository, it will fetch a list of available plugins from that repo. I was trying to add Carsons famous manageR plugin to qgis today and didnt know where to find it (I didnt have time to do a search for it on wiki etc) and it sure would be nice to be able to serenipitously find plugins beyond the official qgis repo but from within the plugin manager. Of course there may be bad security implications to this and at some stage we should contemplate this a bit more deeply - installing a python plugin means you are essentially downloading and running arbitary code and running it with all your user credentials which could be a very bad thing indeed security wise...

Regards

Tim

Hello QGIS Python Plugin Developers,

It has come to my attention that there are quite a few of us plugging away at various plugins (yes that was a bit of a pun ;) ). It has also occurred to me that many of us are probably working on very similar plugins, and that we are probably duplicating development efforts! So, I suggest we try to maintain some sort of list where we can keep each other up-to-date on what we are working on, what we are having trouble with, etc. This would also give people an opportunity to integrate plugin development efforts, and get help on specific problems etc. The PythonPluginsIdeas wiki page [1], is already setup to do this, so perhaps we should make a conscious effort to
use it.

I've added a page summarizing known plugin repositories - useful for
both users seeking for plugins and developers seeking for code samples
or ideas:
